We are a new global change ecology lab at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Here, we briefly explain our research focus and lab philosophy.
Research
Global biodiversity is facing an existential crisis due to the multifaceted impacts of human-induced activities. Changes in environmental conditions are leading to changes in species distribution, and many are facing extinction. Our lab focuses on understanding how species respond to global change drivers and integrating such vulnerability in conservation assessments to develop an efficient conservation plan. We are committed to understanding and mitigating the impacts of anthropogenic activities on natural systems, informing effective, data-driven conservation strategies.

Lab philosophy
“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” — Henry Ford.
The central part of our lab’s philosophy is a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The best science can only emerge from diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and lived experiences. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all members feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives. We actively support researchers from underrepresented groups in science, ensuring that our team reflects the diversity we aim to protect nature.
We conduct science collaboratively and interdisciplinarily, integrating cutting-edge quantitative tools, high-performance computing, and fieldwork to address complex conservation challenges. We encourage open science, innovation, and a growth mindset, fostering an atmosphere where both personal and professional development are prioritised. Through mentorship, skill-building opportunities, and active involvement in broader scientific and conservation communities, we aim to cultivate the next generation of conservation leaders who are not only skilled scientists but also advocates for positive change.
